SEFI was founded in 1973 as a non-profit making organisation.
Together with IGIP both societies represent the largest network of higher
engineering institutions and of individuals involved in engineering
education in Europe.
SEFI has the mission to contribute to the development and the improvement of
the engineering education in Europe.

IGIP-SEFI Vision Statement 2006
In 2006 a vision statement was signed between the presidents of IGIP and
SEFI, stating that both societies will look for a maximum of synergy and
want to start a process of convergence towards a common international
association for engineering education.
The societies organize as a long term objectice one common event per year.
They will jointly promote and run projects on EE and research at European
level and participate actively in the networks supported by the EC in this
field. Both societies will form a common European voice within the world of
Engineering Education Associations.
