Working Groups
Mathematics and Natural Sciences in Engineering Education
Chairperson:
Prof. Dr. Stefan Stankowski, Biel (CH)
Mathematics, physics and chemistry appear as basic courses in most engineering curricula. Chemistry, Physics and Applied Mathematics also exist as degree courses.
The working group represents these branches and would like to integrate Biology in the near future.
Scope of the working group
to represent Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in the IGIP work, integrating Biology in the near future.
to do comparative studies of different approaches to these fields in different countries, draw conclusions and make suggestions.
to deal with didactics and practical problems of teaching in these fields.
to promote fundamental learning concepts related to these fields, such as logic, scientific thinking, conceptual approach based on principles.
to be a lobby for the role and importance of basics in Engineering courses; promote close interlinking with engineering branches and integration into curricula.
to reflect changes in course structures, especially in the framework of Bachelor and Master Degrees and discuss the corresponding role of Mathematics, Physics and Natural Sciences
